Meredith Marks is getting candid about her third breast reduction. In an interview with Page Six ahead of the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City premiere on Wednesday, September 18, the OG cast member, 52, told the outlet that she has a “weird” medical condition in which her breast tissue “doesn’t stop growing.”
Marks didn’t name the condition, namely because doctors have yet to diagnose it. As told to the outlet, she thinks it’s “hormonal and genetic.” Her mom reportedly dealt with the same thing. “I mean, my mom started growing in her 40s and same kind of thing,” she says. “I just was too big to start.”
“It’s wild,” Marks continued. “Seriously, I have this weird issue and I’m hoping this is [my final breast reduction]. I never wanted to be that big. I was always supposed to be a small C.”
When asked if Marks will get another breast reduction in the future if her cup size continues to grow, she says yes, “If I have to, I will. That’s the thing, clothes are fitting better now. When you have to go up two sizes to accommodate your chest, nothing sits right. It’s just not good.”
While Marks’s condition is certainly unique, breast reductions are anything but. In fact, the latest data from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons shows a 54 percent increase in breast reduction surgeries from 2019 to 2022. Experts say they’re seeing this trend in their practices as well. “I’ve noticed a 30 percent rise in requests for breast reduction surgery in my practice this year alone, but I believe this procedure will always remain popular,” New York plastic surgeon Norman Rowe, MD, tells NewBeauty. “Any woman with large breasts will tell you that they can often be challenging and painful.”
Earlier this year, NewBeauty even spoke with several women who underwent breast reductions, including a 17-year-old “late bloomer,” a 56-year-old teacher and mother of three, and others. The overwhelming takeaway? None of them regretted it—in fact, many wished they’d done it sooner.
