Selena Gomez is in a new, deeply fulfilling era of her life. In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, the 32-year-old spoke of her role of a lifetime in Emilia Pérez, the love of her life, Benny Blanco, and her first Emmy nomination for acting.
The star is obviously very close with her family. Co-star Zoe Saldana told Vanity Fair, “She’ll show you 300 pictures of her little sister and parents and grandparents.” She’s also a very invested godmother to her cousin’s two children. Gomez revealed, for the first time, in the interview that she won’t be able to carry children. However, that won’t stop her from being a mother and having a family.
Gomez revealed that family has long been the most important thing to her, with a firm plan to start one of her own by the age of 35, even back when she was single. She has discussed the possibility of adoption in the past, noting that her mom was adopted.
“I haven’t ever said this, but I unfortunately can’t carry my own children. I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby’s in jeopardy,” she said. “That was something I had to grieve for a while.” She’s been very open about her journey with Lupus and her kidney transplant but was keeping this information close to the chest until she was ready to share.
“It’s not necessarily the way I envisioned it,” she said. “[But] I’m in a much better place with that. I find it a blessing that there are wonderful people willing to do surrogacy or adoption, which are both huge possibilities for me. It made me really thankful for the other outlets for people who are dying to be moms. I’m one of those people. I’m excited for what that journey will look like, but it’ll look a little different. At the end of the day, I don’t care. It’ll be mine. It’ll be my baby.”
