As far as trends go, it’s safe to say that every couple of years, all that’s old is new again. Whether it be the resurgence in ’90s accessories like claw clips and scrunchies or the thin eyebrows of the early 2000s, modern takes on classic looks are always popping up. One new trend is the artichoke cut.
In the same way that the ‘hush cut’ is the modern-day shag, celebrity hairstylist to A-listers like Megan Fox and Joey King, Dimtris Giannetos, has introduced a more elevated take on the pixie cut. Ahead, Giannetos walks us through all things artichoke haircut.
What is the ‘artichoke cut’? How is it different from a pixie cut?
While similar in structure, the nuances of the artichoke haircut differentiate it from the pixie in a much cooler way. “The artichoke cut and the pixie are both short hairstyles, but they differ in style,” Giannetos says. “The artichoke cut has short layers that start at the center of the crown, while the pixie cut has wispy bangs.”
Who does an artichoke haircut look best on?
“The artichoke cut is a unique and bold hairstyle that looks best on anyone,” Giannetos affirms. “It’s all about owning the cut and styling it to fit your personality. I personally think it works especially great for those with longer face shapes since it lifts up your features. I recently did this cut on Delilah Belle and it amplified her features so beautifully.”
What are some styling tips?
“When styling your hair to achieve the artichoke cut, it is best to add volume, incorporate rollers and tease each piece with a comb,” advises Dimtris. “The Garnier Fructis Hair Filler Inner Fiber Repair Pre-Shampoo Treatment ($7) will provide your hair with the moisture it needs to keep it looking smooth and soft.”
