Don’t you just wish there was a haircut that could work on anyone? Well, according to celebrity stylist Castillo Bataille, the wispy lob is that cut. It flatters every face shape with its added dimension and beautiful framing. So, you tell us: Will the wispy lob be your next cut?

The Magic of the Wispy Lob

Castillo Bataille is an L.A. native and a celebrity hairstylist who has worked with everyone from Megan Fox to Priyanka Chopra, so it’s safe to say he knows his stuff. As declared by the pro, “The wispy lob is an excellent choice for all face shapes. Soft, wispy layers create movement and dimension around the face in a manner that complements any shape,” he says.

These airy layers are designed to frame the face, and ending the cut around the shoulders or collarbone helps create an overall harmony. Improving volume for thinner hair and adding texture to thicker hair, the wispy lob is essentially the upgraded version of the shabby-chic lob or a shag. Not quite as defined as a wolf or cub cut, the wispy lob is more demure and mindful.

“You can achieve this look by requesting subtle, wispy layers throughout your lob,” Bataille explains. “And you can use a curling wand to create loose waves during styling.”

Other Short Hairstyles to Consider

So you want to go short. Lucky for you, Bataille is Known for his gorgeous cuts that enhance his client’s natural beauty, and the expert has been deep into the year of the bob. From Fox’s jaw-length cut and playful colors to Alyssa Milano’s coquette and wispy bob, Bataille has spent the year taking his clients to shorter places.

That said, Bataille suggests customizing your cut to suit your unique features (unless you’re opting for the universally flattering wispy lob, of course). “Transitioning to short hair can be a thrilling experience, but there are a few things to consider before taking the plunge,” Bataille says. “First, think about your face shape and hair texture, as these will influence the style of bob or lob that suits you best.”

How Your Face Shape Might Influence Your Short Cut

“The primary difference between a bob and a lob lies in the length,” Bataille says. “A bob typically falls around the jawline or slightly above, creating a chic, classic look. On the other hand, a lob, or long bob, extends to the shoulders or just below, offering a bit more versatility while still maintaining the stylish appeal of a bob. Both styles can be tailored to suit different face shapes and hair textures, so it ultimately comes down to your personal preference and how much length you want to keep.”

Heart-shaped faces may be looking to balance a wide forehead or to create more volume near the chin. Conversely, rounder faces may not want to draw attention to the jawline. “Aside from the cut, texture and color can make an impact,” Bataille says. “Babylights can bring dimension to heart-shaped faces, and waves can help bring a playfulness to round faces.”
