There’s a lot of talk about self-care and wellness in the beauty space, but how often do we see practical, beneficial initiatives from brands that tout the importance of mental health? May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and some of our favorite brands have unique offerings during the month, while others donate to related non-profits year-round. These are the brands we love that love supporting mental health awareness.
Chillhouse
This month, Chillhouse introduced the “Stress Is More Serious Than Spa Days” campaign. It acknowledges that while self-care treatments can help you “Find Your Chill,” some stress goes beyond what a manicure can cure. Through May, Chillhouse is offering its community opportunities to access and amplify resources for stress reduction and therapy.
They launched the “BRB Going To Therapy” Crewneck Sweatshirt ($40) to help destigmatize therapy and mental health support. During May, all proceeds from the sweatshirt will go to Chillhouse’s 1% for a Chiller World partner, Sad Girls Club. Chillhouse also teamed up with Aerie to offer an exclusive manicure design available at the flagship location in SoHo, 20 percent of which will also go to Sad Girls Club.
Maybelline New York
The drugstore beauty brand recently announced its new, long-term partnership with the WHO Foundation, which enables access to mental health services for millions. Maybelline New York’s goal is to donate $20 million to this cause by 2030 and help 10 million people through access to one-on-one mental health support.
Squigs
As an AAPI-owned brand that supports mental health charities, May is a big month for Squigs. The brand’s mission of “Happy Headcare” goes beyond its scalp care products. Squigs says a percentage of proceeds will be donated to a mental health charity every year.
Saks Fifth Avenue
Saks Fifth Avenue has a multi-faceted campaign this Mental Health Awareness Month, including a partnership with Dr. Deepika Chopra, fundraising, employee events and local grants to nonprofits.
Philosophy
Philosophy was way ahead of the curve. In 2014 the brand created its Hope & Grace initiative. Every Philosophy purchase helps support community-based initiatives to improve the mental health of women, with over $5.8 million in donations in the past nine years.
Bubble Skincare
Bubble Skincare believes taking care of your mental health should be as common and accessible as caring for your skin. The brand donates one percent of proceeds to various non-profit organizations that provide emotional support to teens and young adults. They also partner with BetterHelp. You can get 50 percent off your first month of affordable online counseling when you go through Bubble.
