Rebel Wilson has been open about her weight loss journey, famously declaring 2020 her “year of health” and shedding nearly 80 pounds to increase her chances of successful IVF. Fast forward to 2024, the 44-year-old actress revealed to The Sunday Times that she briefly incorporated the FDA-approved weight-loss medication Ozempic into her comprehensive weight-management approach. But beyond the workouts, lifestyle changes, and temporary GLP-1 prescription, Wilson recently acknowledged an emotional element of successful weight loss that she had previously overlooked, among other insights in a newly published interview with Us Weekly. Ahead, we highlight some of the most notable takeaways.
On what she’s learned from her weight loss journey…
“There’s no magic fix,” she told the outlet. “I’d been on diets. I’ve been really good [about] exercising pretty much my entire life. For me, it was the emotional element that I’d never looked at. I’d kind of been, like, “Emotions … Ugh, I don’t want to talk about things.”
In March, she revealed to People that she had started therapy to address her emotional eating habits. “I would be hard on myself,” she said at the time. “I’m like, ‘How can I be a person who excels in so many things, and gets two university degrees, and can make millions of dollars, and can start from nothing and then create this huge career, but I couldn’t lose weight?’ I would always beat myself up about that and go, ‘What’s wrong with me?’”
She dives more into the subject in her memoir, Rebel Rising, which came out in April. Speaking to People about it, she said that she hopes the book gives “people the message, if they’re like me and an emotional eater, that it’s not about that stuff. It’s literally about working at a healthier way to deal with your emotions, and there is no magic solution. Maybe me telling my story might encourage them to do the same and make healthy change in their lives.”

On an experience that changed her perspective on food and her body…
“The biggest one would be when I had this consultation with a fertility doctor,” she revealed. “He was like, ‘Well, you’d have a much better chance of having a child if you were healthy.’ It kind of really hit a nerve, that [it] could prevent me from having a child. I did have to go through this whole health journey in order to get my daughter, Royce.”
On motherhood…
Wilson and her fiancée, Ramona Agruma, chose surrogacy and welcomed their daughter, Royce Lillian, in November 2022. “Every time she says ‘Mama,’ I melt,” she told the outlet. “But it’s just hard, and [I] just [have] massive respect to all the other mothers. Mine was a single mother with four children. Like, how did she do it?”
On life after coming out…
Rebel Wilson came out as a member of the LGBTQ+ community in June 2022. During Pride Month, she announced her relationship with Ramona Agruma on Instagram, sharing a heartfelt post about finding her “Disney Princess” instead of a prince. “Honestly, even before I was in a same-sex relationship, I was an ally and had so many fans on the rainbow spectrum,” she told Us. “[But] people are just great. I did not have one negative reaction — and I think that shows how things have changed. It’s such a different time now, and it’s just been a hugely positive thing.”
