Celebrity makeup artists are responsible for making their clients look their best from the moment they step out of the car until the last camera shuts down. These experts know which makeup products will outlast sweat this summer because they have unparalleled experience. We asked the makeup artists of some of our favorite celebs which products they’ve seen last through hours of red carpets, press events, concerts and more.
Dior Addict Lip Tint ($40)
Celebrity makeup artist to Salma Hayek, Demi Moore and Dua Lipa, Nikki Wolff recently used this lip tint on Sabrina Carpenter for one of her concerts and she says it’s “really good to keep the look on without transfer or smudging.”
Armani Power Fabric + Foundation ($69)
Celebrity makeup artist Kelsey Deenihan Fisher, who works with Kelsea Ballerini, Hillary Duff, Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman, says this is her favorite foundation for situations where there’s a chance of sweat. “It has a subtle matte finish that combats shine and stays in place all day.”
La Prairie Skin Caviar Complexion Loose Powder ($250)
“Powder is really important to set makeup. I prefer to set at the very end and then go back before the person is ready to leave with another layer of powder that way you do not build too much product throughout the glam session,” says Wolff. “For longevity, I’m usually very careful how much powder I use.” If you’re down to splurge on a setting powder Wolff says this is one of her preferred options.
Alcone Stop the Sweat ($14)
Just as its name suggests, celebrity makeup artist Ermahn Ospina, who works with Amal Clooney, Rosario Dawson and Jordana Brewster, says this product helps prevent breakthrough oils and sweat. He applies it to his clients under foundation. “It’s ideal for all skin types, it’s also water and perspiration resistant.”
Hourglass Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Stick ($49)
“I find certain foundations wear better than the others depending on skin type,” says Wolff. For dry skin and full coverage, she often uses this Hourglass Foundation Stick. “I find its creamy texture lasts surprisingly well on dry skin during the whole day.”
Chanel STYLO YEUX WATERPROOF Long-Lasting Eyeliner ($34)
Angela Basset’s makeup artist D’Andre Michael recommends this Chanel eyeliner that comes in 14 colors, although he gives a nod to 88 Noir Intense in particular. It’s resistant to water, humidity and oil.
Maybelline Lash Sensational Sky High Mascara ($13)
“There’s nothing worse than having mascara transfer to your lids and under eyes and this mascara is one of the very few I’ve found that can hold up to anything,” says Deenihan Fisher. It’s her “go-to for stay-all-day, no-raccoon eyes, will-not-budge mascara.”
Fenty Beauty Stunna Lip Paint ($28)
“Traditional lipsticks and glosses don’t tend to last that well. You have to be careful especially if you do a bold or a bright lip,” says Wolff. “I prefer to use a stain or a stay-on lipstick.” Wolff loves this lip paint, especially in the red shade (Uncensored). “It suits pretty much everybody, stays really well and dries matte without being drying. It also doesn’t transfer.”
Dior Backstage Face and Body Foundation ($43)
This foundation is always a must in Wolff’s kit. “The shade range is great, and it wears well on everyone,” she says. According to Dior it lasts through exercise, contact with water, high temperatures and damp environments.
Maybelline Super Stay Vinyl Ink Liquid Lipcolor ($13)
After Michael suggested this Super Stay Vinyl Ink Liquid Lipcolor we filled our cart with a few of the slick shades which include neutrals, darker colors and everything in between. This is truly a no-budge formula with its 16-hour Color-Lock technology.
Beautyblender BOUNCE Liquid Whip Cream Blush ($22)
Michael loves this blush for shades that’ll stay put. It’s poured hot as a liquid and whipped into a creamy texture, but it has the staying powder and finish of a powder.
Buxom Cosmetics Serial Kisser Plumping Lip Stain ($22)
Ospina says he’s seen this product last through red carpets firsthand. “This lip stain hydrates and nourishes lips while leaving them looking plump. It requires almost no touch-ups, thanks to its long-lasting formula,” he says. “It’s amazing. I simply love it.”
KS&CO Microfeathering Brow Pen ($42)
This micro-fine pen delivers thin, feathery strokes that mirror real brow hair and comes recommended by Michael. We definitely don’t want our eyebrows fading or smudging, so this is at the top of our list of must-haves.
Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder ($43)
This is another preferred powder product from Wolff. It promises a 16-hour hold and 24-hour shine control. With over 7,000 five-star reviews on the brand’s site, it seems users attest to its long-lasting power.
L’Oréal Voluminous Carbon Black ($11)
You don’t have to splurge to get a mascara that will stay put. Michael recommends this L’Oréal mascara you can find in most local drugstores.
