When it comes to skin care, we all have that one issue that seems to overshadow the rest. Whether it’s stubborn wrinkles or persistent acne, you’re not alone in your struggles. After surveying more than 1,000 NewBeauty readers,* we’ve identified the top skin-care concerns that are on everyone’s mind. Here’s what’s bothering our readers the most and some effective solutions to tackle these issues.
1. Wrinkles and/or Fine Lines (91%)
The overwhelming majority of readers are concerned about wrinkles and fine lines. Retinol remains a gold-standard ingredient for smoothing skin and boosting collagen production. Incorporating anti-aging treatments that feature retinol can help visibly reduce the appearance of these lines and maintain youthful-looking skin.
2. Hyperpigmentation (62%)
Hyperpigmentation, including dark spots and uneven skin tone, is a significant concern among readers. Antioxidant serums, particularly those containing vitamin C, can help combat this issue by protecting the skin from free-radical damage and promoting a more even complexion. If you’re already using vitamin C, consider bringing brightening ingredients like niacinamide, AHAs, azelaic or lactic acid into the mix.
3. Cellulite (35%)
Cellulite affects over a third of our readers. While retinol-spiked body treatments can help firm the skin, topicals won’t really fix cellulite, which occurs below the skin. Avelí is an in-office treatment that has garnered attention for its ability to reduce the appearance of cellulite. By targeting the fibrous bands beneath the skin, Avelí smooths out dimpled areas and restores a more even skin texture.
4. Acne (22%)
Acne remains a persistent problem for many. Blemish-busting ingredients like benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid are essential for anyone dealing with breakouts. Benzoyl peroxide kills acne-causing bacteria, while salicylic acid helps to unclog pores and reduce inflammation. Regular use of products containing these ingredients can help keep acne at bay. If they don’t do much for your case of acne, a visit to your dermatologist is a good idea as oral solutions might be an option.
5. Acne Scarring (20%)
Acne scarring is a concern for a significant portion of our readers. In-office treatments, such as laser therapy or microneedling, can provide substantial improvements in skin texture. Additionally, incorporating exfoliating products at home can help to gradually soften the appearance of scars and promote skin renewal.
