She may be forever engrained in our brains as Reba’s Cheyenne Hart-Montgomery, but JoAnna Garcia Swisher is actually a 45-year-old mom with a busy fall. In between her back-to-school schedule and end of summer, Garcia Swisher caught up with us to talk her new car partnership, sensitive-skin musts and Reba glam secrets.
Why this partnership with Kelley Blue Book?
Kelley Blue Book has been a trusted resource for my family for a long time. When I heard they published the Best Family Cars of 2024 list, I was excited to spread the word. They understand that a car isn’t just something that gets us from place to place. We spend so much time in our cars, and that time is so precious. It has become a safe space for my family to have some of the most meaningful conversations.
Reba is such an iconic show. Are there any glam moments that have stuck with you from filming?
I have really enjoyed looking back on my years on the show and often find myself remembering exact outfits and pieces of jewelry so vividly. Cheyenne was such a fun character because of her bright blonde hair and the makeup looks we got to experiment with. Our hair and makeup room was one of my favorite places on the set. We all got ready together on tape nights, and it became a special space for us to have fun before we went out on stage.
What about Sweet Magnolias? Are there any products the crew always uses on set?
My makeup artist, Amber Crowe, and I had so much fun this past season. Amber really understands how to make everyday makeup look special and elevated. A lot of that starts with skin care. I don’t even want to know how many jars of the 24K Gold Pure Luxury Lift and Firm Hydra-Gel eye patches from Peter Thomas Roth we went through! I would even wear them during my lunch break to keep me going throughout the day. Speaking of my under-eyes, YSE Beauty’s Wide Awake Brightening Eye Cream was a staple. Hydration is always a priority on long shooting days, and both of these products kept me and my makeup looking and feeling fresh even by hour 16!
Are there any beauty items you’ve used forever?
My Los Angeles–based aesthetician, Shani Darden, has a skin-care line that I’m very devoted to. I use almost all of her products religiously. They’re as gentle as they are effective, and they never irritate my sensitive skin.
What are you excited about as the kids go back to school?
This is an exciting year for both of my girls. My youngest, Sailor, started 3rd grade and just auditioned for the school play. They’re doing Beauty and the Beast, and she’s so excited! Emme, my oldest, started middle school and is thrilled because she signed up to take care of all the class pets. I love it because I don’t foresee a python, bearded dragon or rats joining our family anytime soon, so she can enjoy those critters at school this year!
