Dame Helen Mirren has been inspiring generations of women for decades. The 78-year-old actress exemplifies aging with grace, but she never lets a number stop her from trying new beauty trends. Throughout the years, Mirren has shared her favorite skin-care, makeup and hair products.
Helen Mirren’s favorite beauty products
L’Oreal Paris Elnett Hair Spray ($7)
“Elnett is the go-to,” Mirren told us. “Every hairdresser that has ever had my hair go through their hands has used it. The smell of it has been with me for, I think, my whole life. I always say to hairdressers, ‘Elnett, really?’ And they all say, ‘Yes, it’s the best.’ Of all of the amazing products that have come out since it launched, I don’t know how long ago, it has been the consistent one.”
Nivea Creme ($11)
Mirren’s love of drugstore beauty items extends beyond L’Oreal Paris products. She shared with us that she uses “good old Nivea for dry skin.”
L’Oréal Intense Volume Matte Lipstick ($14)
L’Oréal Paris global makeup director Val Garland told us she loves using lip color as blush on mature skin. She’s used this L’Oréal lipstick on Mirren because it has hyaluronic acid, which promotes a “radiance within” look without looking shiny or greasy.
Castor oil
Vogue India reports that Mirren says she loves castor oil. “I use a little bit in my hair—very, very little. I use it on my fingernails. I use it on my skin,” she says. “Castor oil’s amazing. A tiny bit on your hair gives it a little shine, a little separation. [I use it on my] eyebrows, eyelashes, fingernails—just rub it in.”
L’Oréal Paris Age Perfect Radiant Serum Foundation in Golden Beige ($18)
Celebrity makeup artist Jo Strettell prepped Mirren for the 2022 SAG Awards by applying this serum all over the face, neck and ears and buffed it into skin using a buffing brush for a “flawless, light and natural-looking face.”
L’Oréal Paris Colorista 1-Day Spray in Pastel Blue ($11)
Celebrity hairstylist Stephane Lancien created the iconic blue hair look Mirren sported at this year’s Cannes Film Festival with this pastel temporary spray.
