You’ve seen it on the red carpet before—that “wet” hair look that celebrities like Kim Kardashian famously stepped out with at the 2019 Met Gala, or Paris Hilton just rocked at the 2024 VMAs. But leave it to Selena Gomez to take the trend in a fresh direction by bringing it to her nails. For the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday, September 15, the Only Murders in the Building star, 32, teamed up with her go-to manicurist, Tom Bachik, to bring the red carpet-worthy manicure to life. And the best part: Bachik shared a step-by-step breakdown of the look on Instagram, so you can recreate it at home this fall—or bring it to your nail tech at your next appointment.
“Taking from summer’s soap nail trend, we took it one step further for the @televisionacad #Emmys with nails that appear so glossy and still look wet,” Bachik captioned his Instagram post. “First, I started the look using my favorite @tweezerman tools to perform a meticulous mani for the perfect foundation of our look. I shaped nails into a soft almond for a soft elegant movie-star vibe and applied @kokoistusa Mega Stick Base.”
After that, he used Kokoist USA’s Satin Magnet SM-22 Nail Polish in the shimmery shade Apricot Satin ($17), which the pro says complemented her skin tone. Next, he got technical. “Using a magnet, I pulled all the shimmer to the outside edge, creating depth and a ‘still wet’ highlight,” Bachik explains on Instagram. “Then I increased the gloss with a thick coat of Ultra Glossy Non Wipe Top Coat, also by @kokoistusa.”
As the finishing steps, Bachik rehydrated the star’s cuticles with the very-luxurious Chanel Huile de Jasmin Revitalizing Facial Oil ($125) to give her hands a “youthful glow,” followed by Gomez’s own Rare Beauty Find Comfort Hydrating Hand Cream ($18). Then, she drew even more attention to her manicure with Tiffany & Co. rings, which, teamed with her jewel encrusted gown and diamond earrings, were the perfect match for her ultra-glamorous look.
