Makeup By Mario has launched their new Soft Pop Plumping Blush Veil ($30), and it has quickly become one of my favorite launches of the year. Mario Dedivanovic, celebrity makeup artist and founder, developed this lightweight formula to create a natural flush of color that allows skin to shine through. While most cream blushes fall under “a little goes a long way,” this unique formula gives my skin a sheer, youthful flush while improving my complexion.
According to Dedivanovic, the Soft Pop Plumping Blush Veil’s balm-like texture gives it the ability to go on transparently, giving the skin a luminous and natural look. The formula is similar to the brand’s popular Transforming Skin Enhancer ($30) and contains skin-loving ingredients. “One of the main ingredients is the hyaluronic acid, which we all know is going to help to get a more plumped appearance,” said Dedivanovic during an exclusive Masterclass to introduce the product to beauty editors and content creators. “It’s going to help to moisturize and illuminate skin,” he explained. “The blush also features light-sculpting pearls that reflect light, adding dimension and sculpting the cheeks without any visible shimmer.”
Next-Generation Formulation
One of the standout features of this cream blush is its versatility. It can be applied directly on bare skin or over foundation, making it suitable for all skin types. Dedivanovic recommends applying the blush with a brush, sponge, or even fingers, depending on personal preference and the desired effect. He suggests smiling and applying the blush on the upper area of the cheeks to create a lifted look. “I prefer to apply with the F1 brush ($30), but you can definitely do it with a sponge, too,” he said. “You can also apply it with your fingers. I smile and I just kind of pat it onto the cheeks. It can also be blended towards the outer corners of the eyes to reduce dark circles and add vibrancy.”
When it comes to layering the blush with other products, Dedivanovic advises applying it after setting the base with powder. This allows the cream blush to grip the skin and prevents it from slipping or sliding throughout the day. For added pigment color and longevity, he suggests layering a powder blush of a similar shade on top of the cream blush.
