Accessibility took the forefront at the 2023 Consumer Electronics Show. A new, first-of-its-kind device is debuting from L’Oréal Lancôme to help those with limited hand or arm mobility apply makeup. The device, called HAPTA, is a motorized, ultra-precise handheld makeup applicator that can help with steady application for those who need it. Although the HAPTA features a lipstick applicator upon its initial debut, the company says they’re planning to expand its functionality over time to include other tools and applicators.
HAPTA features “smart” motion controls, magnetic attachments for ergonomic rotation and flexibility which will allow users to apply makeup with more ease. The technology used to increase stabilization and leveling was originally created by Verily, the company behind the technology that produces Liftware Steady utensils.
“For years, Lancôme has sought to provide every woman with beauty solutions adapted to their needs. Beauty tech has enabled us to fulfill this mission in an even more powerful way, revolutionizing the way we develop beauty products and services and enabling greater personalization,” said Lancôme global brand president Françoise Lehmann in a press release. “With HAPTA we are going one step further by making beauty more accessible to use, because everyone should have equal access to it.”
