Nominated for three Emmys, including Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, tonight is a big night for Quinta Brunson. Brunson stars in Abbott Elementary, which she created after a lifetime of conversation with her mother, who was a teacher. Ahead of Brunson’s big night, we talked with her makeup artist Renée Loiz. She gave us the behind-the-scenes info on Brunson’s red carpet look.
What products are you using to create Quinta’s Emmy look?
“For her big Emmys look, I’ll first be focusing on the face and applying foundation. I like to use Westman Atelier Vital Skincare Complexion Drops ($68) as a base. Quinta is a big fan of the Fenty Beauty Bright Fix Eye Brightener ($26). I’ll use that for a touch of color correction to brighten under the eyes and prep her eyes for concealer. When I’m done, I like to set her face by using Westman Atelier’s Vital Pressed Skincare Powder ($75) in the shades ‘Dune’ and ‘Cafe’ so that her skin comes through soft and luminous. ‘Dune’ will be used under the eyes to set the concealer. ‘Cafe’ will be patted into Quinta’s T-zone to set her makeup.
On her cheeks, I like to use Westman Atelier Baby Cheeks Blush Stick ($45) in ‘Bichette’ mixed with Westman Atelier Lit Up Highlight Stick ($48) in Brûlée for the perfect sun-kissed bronzer glow. To contour, I’ll apply Danessa Myrick Balm Contour ($26) under her cheekbones to sculpt her face. A cream product is preferred when contouring. It melts into the skin and doesn’t leave harsh detectable streaks of color!
Moving onto her brows, I’ll fill them in with Westman Atelier Bonne Brow Defining Pencil ($38) in ‘Bark’ and ‘Slate’. I like to use two different shades to add dimension and texture to her brows. ‘Bark’ will be used to shape out her full brow, and I’ll add flicks of ‘Slate’ to mimic brow hairs.
Quinta already has beautiful eyes. To enhance them and complement her gorgeous outfit, I’ll be applying a copper shadow all over the lids and then using Westman Atelier Eye Pod Single ($32) in Champagne to achieve a wet look. To fill in any sparse areas between Quinta’s top lashes, I will use Juvia’s Place I Line, I Define Pen Eyeliner ($15). This will help give the illusion of thicker eyelashes! As a last step, I will apply individual Kasha faux lashes. This will enhance and elongate Quinta’s lashes while still giving them a very natural feel.
To wrap up her look, I’ll finish off with Quinta’s lips. I’ll start by defining them with Mented Cosmetics Lip Liner in Bare ($12) to perfectly match her natural lip tone. I’ll then apply the Westman Atelier Squeaky Clean Liquid Lip Balm in Garconne ($38). This will keep her lips hydrated and sheer. This natural color will keep the focus on her copper eyes. I love this tinted lip balm. It will add a subtle touch of baby plum to bring the whole look together. Once we’re finished, I’ll be sure to touch her up right before she heads down that red carpet!”
What products can be found in Quinta’s everyday makeup look?
“Some of Quinta’s can’t-live-without essentials for her everyday look include the Benefit brow pencil ($25) and brow gel ($24), the Westman Atelier complexion drops foundation and InnBeauty Project Glaze Lip Oil ($17). Quinta also likes to use both Pat McGrath mascara and ILIA mascara ($28), and finally Glossier’s tinted serum foundation ($26) and cheek gel ($20)!”
How will Quinta prep her skin ahead of the red carpet?
“Ahead of the Emmys red carpet, Quinta’s not only prepping her skin during the day but the night before as well. On nights before big events like last night, Quinta likes to soothe her skin with OLAY’s Retinol24 collection. She starts by cleansing her skin using the OLAY Regenerist Retinol24 Facial Cleanser ($8). Once she’s squeaky clean, she applies a few drops of the Retinol24 Night Serum ($30) to visibly hydrate the skin. She then dabs a generous amount of her Retinol24 Night Eye Cream ($30) to firm and even her skin tone. To finish, Quinta applies her Retinol24 + Peptide Night Face Moisturizer ($30), to wake up with smooth and bright skin on the day of the Emmys!
This morning, Quinta will prep her skin with a non-irritating face wipe. Since she has sensitive skin, her favorite wipes are OLAY’s Daily Facial Cleansing Dry Cloths ($30). When she’s ready for makeup, she’ll spray her YouthForia Pregame Setting Spray ($36) to prime her skin. In order to get her ready to glow on the carpet, I will be using the OLAY Vitamin C + Peptide 24 Serum ($30) on her face, neck, and under the eyes to brighten her skin.
Lastly, as a way to soothe Quinta on her big day, I like to use the RéVolve Contouring Massage Roller ($150), which will help the serum penetrate deeper into the skin, as well as shape and sculpt her face, neck and under eyes. And, of course, Quinta won’t forget to prep her body! After showering, she’ll use her favorite OLAY Body Milk Lotion ($11) and her NARS Monoi Body Glow ($59) to remain glistening throughout the night.”
