Despite its flaws, the modeling industry has come a long way from the restrictive standards of the supermodel era circa 1990. Gone are the days where a model’s career ends at 25, and where aging is the enemy. Need proof? Look at Cindy Crawford. At 58 years old, the supermodel is still getting behind the camera and owning it every second.

While she may seem confident on camera, aging in the spotlight is never easy, especially for those in the modeling world. If you’re looking for a positive perspective on aging, keep reading to hear how Crawford views aging and “age maintenance” in skin care thanks to her recent interview with BBC.

Crawford Gets Candid About Aging

As Crawford told BBC, her fear of aging began at 35, when most modeling careers come to an end. “I had been on contract with Revlon for nearly 13 years. They were wonderful to me. But models did not last past 35 back then. That was just the industry thinking at the time.” Having began her journey as a mother, Crawford had a decision to make, and she decided to not let aging hold her back.  “And I was like, ‘Okay, am I going to just ride off into the sunset? Or am I going to bet on myself, and try and do my own thing?’ I just knew I had to take a chance on myself.”

When it comes to her perspective on aging, Crawford credits her “don’t panic” approach to renowned cosmetic doctor Jean-Louis Sebagh. “He calls his work age-maintenance,” she explained. “It’s a realistic thing. You’re taking care; you’re trying to look as good as you can for as long as you can—you’re not fighting against the years that you’ve earned.”

Dr. Sebagh’s work and philosophy on aging skin inspired Crawford’s line, Meaningful Beauty, which they created together and launched via infomercial. “It was really important that Meaningful Beauty be accessible to everybody,” she explains. “And look, beauty tutorials and TikToks are basically just little infomercials, right? Back then, an infomercial meant, like, crappy ginsu knives.” Meaningful Beauty provides consumers with curated skin-care solutions like their Anti-Aging Daily Skincare System ($70) and innovative Wrinkle Smoothing Capsules ($60)
