Whether you had too much salt the night before, one too many margaritas or are just dealing with some excess water retention, facial puffiness is sometimes unavoidable. Plenty of external circumstances can lead to a puffy appearance on and around the face, and for many, myself included, a puffy face can be a major source of insecurity.
When I wake up with a puffy face, I don’t feel like myself. And who has time for an extravagant, time-sensitive depuffing routine that involves a gua sha heated with hot water followed by a session with cryo globes? So when I heard about TheraFace’s new hot-to-cold Depuffing Wand ($149), I knew I had to give it a try. Ahead, I break down everything you need to know about the new TheraFace Depuffing Wand before you try it yourself.
TheraFace Depuffing Wand: How it Works
When it comes to depuffing, we often think of going right to cold temperatures, but starting with heat is essential to move any excess fluid out of the face and depuff. Harnessing the power of hot and cold therapy on the face is the guiding technology behind TheraFace’s Depuffing Wand. It boasts clinically tested hot and cold settings, each with three dermatologist-informed preset temperatures ranging from 95º to 108º for heat treatment and 50º to 57º for cold. By using heat treatments followed by cold therapy, this FDA-approved device increases firmness, elasticity and radiance while decreasing puffiness, lifting and rejuvenating the skin and smoothening and brightening the under-eye area.
“The rejuvenating heat treatment boosts lymphatic drainage, helps improve product absorption and enhances radiance,” the brand explains. “Designed with a contoured, easy-glide applicator tip to reach every inch of your face, even the curves and corners around the eyes and nose, our proprietary Cryothermal Technology allows the wand to reach each desired temperature in seconds and stays constant for your entire treatment.” Essentially, gone are the days of your self-heated or frozen tools going room temp in seconds.
TheraFace Depuffing Wand: Tested + Reviewed
As someone who suffers from chronic puffiness, I consider myself somewhat of an expert in the field of at-home depuffing techniques. However, I’ve been left unsatisfied with most I tried, from at-home lymphatic massages to in-depth gua sha routines and even bloat-reducing supplements. I can say with confidence, though, that the TheraFace Depuffing Wand is the best depuffing product I’ve tried in my time as a beauty editor. What really sold me about the device was how easy and enjoyable it was to use. After all, the best skin-care products are the ones you want to use consistently.
Both the heat and cold settings on TheraFace’s Depuffing Wand are so relaxing to use that I find myself opting for sessions as a relaxing treat in addition to a depuffing necessity. For my personal use, I start with the hottest setting and sculpt out my face the same way I would with a gua sha, and follow it with the coolest setting to lock in the benefits (and the results are immediate). I also love to use the cool setting on my brow bone and under my eyes first thing in the morning to help me look and feel more awake. Not only have I found myself using the TheraFace Depuffing wand more consistently in my day-to-day than any other tool I’ve tried, thus enhancing the benefits, it’s also travel-safe and perfect for long flights. I brought it on a recent cross-country trip, using the heat setting to relax before takeoff and the cool setting to wake me up post-redeye. Even on a short trip, I can’t imagine traveling without it.
