There’s a reason why google searches for pore minimizers and blackhead-removing products are at an all-time high: We like our skin clean and glowy, not congested. The at-home DERMAFLASH Dermapore device (you may have heard it called a “face scraper”) makes it easier than ever to get rid of all the gunk that’s weighing your pores down, and it’s also our 2022 Award Winner for Best Pore-Extracting Device. Scroll down to get the full scoop. (And, you can actually try it yourself if you’re one of the lucky ones to snag this week’s BeautyPass Free Gift Friday. The Benefits:
This is one of those devices that I find really fun to use. The ultrasonic vibration feels good on my skin and the satisfaction of having clean pores is a gift in and of itself. This high-tech device employs ultrasonic waves at 33,000 hertz per second (insanely fast!) via a stainless steel spatula to deep-clean congested pores. For me personally, it’s a great way to eliminate some of the squeezing I’d be tempted to do, especially around my nose, that my dermatologist has told me repeatedly not to do because of potential scarring. It also feels a little bit like a spa treatment, so you can turn it into a nice ritual each week.
It’s clinically proven safe for all skin types without any irritation, and the Infuse Mode is a really unique way of helping to boost the efficacy of your skin-care products. I’ve used it with a few different serums, a lightweight moisturizer and even a gel mask, and it enhances the absorption of the products’ active ingredients.
In a clinical study, after using the device one time, 83 percent of participants said their pores looked tighter, 94 percent said their skin felt cleaner and smoother, and 94 percent said their skin felt more moisturized and hydrated. And because I appreciate color options, I want to let you know that it also comes in four colors: light pink, mint green, charcoal and white (and the silicone design is waterproof so there’s no need to worry if it gets wet, which it will during the treatment).
How to Use It:
Before using the device, wash your face and be sure you remove all of your makeup so Dermapore can really access your pores. Probably my most important piece of advice: Keep your skin wet the whole time you’re using the device. Press the power button once to activate Extract Mode, and the device will vibrate so you know it’s on and ready to go. Using gentle, but firm pressure, move the spatula around your nose, chin and anywhere else your pores need some heavy-duty action to remove dirt, oil and stubborn blackheads (you can also use it on your neck). I like to use it on my entire face, as it gives me the perfect canvas to allow my skin-care products to penetrate more effectively. Once you’re done with extractions, wipe the spatula with alcohol on a cotton pad, or a little soap and water.
Next, apply your serum or moisturizer and press the power button twice to activate Infuse Mode—a blue light will glow at the bottom of the device, and you’ll feel a tapping vibration to signal it’s ready. Use the backside of the spatula (the one with the symbols on it) to glide across your skin and “infuse” your skin care. I always need to follow up with a little massage using my fingers for any leftover product, but I bet if you don’t want to get your hands messy, you could be a little bit more thorough and push it all in with the device (the thickness of your cream or serum may play a role in this too). Be sure to clean the spatula again after this phase. You can use it up to three times a week, but I’ve done as little as one treatment per week (life gets busy!) and still seen great results.
The Bottom Line:
If you have congested pores and can’t make it to the spa or salon for a facial, take matters into your own hands with this powerhouse pore-cleansing device that also makes the skin-care products you apply after penetrate more effectively.
