Keratosis pilaris (KP) has been the bane of my skin’s existence for as long as I can remember. If your skin is riddled with KP as well, you understand how frustrating it can be to try dozens of sticky, smelly, expensive products—both OTC and prescription— that don’t end up buffing the bumps. KP occurs when skin produces too much keratin, which blocks hair follicles and manifests in tiny bumps. While not at all dangerous, these bumps can be a sore subject and a confidence-deflator during the summer as it often appears on the arms, butt and thighs.

U Beauty launched with the Resurfacing Compound, which was an immediate hit for resurfacing and brightening skin on the face. After years of development, the team recently launched a companion product for the body. U Beauty Body Resurfacing Compound combats various kinds of uneven skin, from wrinkles to KP to strawberry legs, with a star-studded ingredient list.

The Benefits:

Having completely smooth skin from head to toe is rare. Everyone has a rough spot or two—or, like me, is covered in them. At first use, I noticed my skin felt softer to the touch within the hour even though, of course, my bumps were still present. At the brand’s launch event, founder Tina Chen Craig offered her arm since she’d been using the product for a while. Reader, it was as soft as a newborn.

After a few weeks of using it myself, it was clear that the compound was working on a level other products hadn’t before. My skin felt softer than I remembered it being in years, and my rough bumpy patches became less obvious, slowly lessening over time.

With continued use the product exfoliates, dissolves and smoothes away the bumps that come from keratin blockages. Over-exfoliation can be inflammatory for KP, so a big benefit of this product is that it also features soothing and hydrating ingredients to maintain skin health while exfoliating.

Beyond helping reduce KP, the compound optimizes skin turnover, thereby refining skin and reducing the depth of wrinkles. Other skin textures you might want to address are also no match for this mix. Strawberry legs, razor irritation, rough flaky skin and other visible imperfections can all be managed with the compound. Over 93 percent of people showed an improvement in skin smoothness and softness. When it came to wrinkles, volunteers demonstrated visible improvement after just 30 days. As for skin texture and bump improvement, 80 percent of people saw a remarkable difference.

One of the biggest benefits for me is that I actually enjoy using the product. What has often stood in the way of me and other KP products is how much I’ve disliked using them. I’ll be diligent for a few days, but then weeks go by, and I’ve phased out the product due to smell, feel or something else that was unappealing. This serum is lightweight and easy to apply, only adding a few minutes to my overall skin-care routine.

Key Ingredients:

Bioferments, biomimetic peeling peptide, salinicoccus lysate filtrate, flower acid, papain, shea butter and glycol, mandelic, lactic and phytic acids

Bottom Line:

If you have KP or any kind of skin texture imperfections you’d like to address, give this compound a try. Commit to applying it as instructed, and you’ll notice visible results.
