BeautyStat’s Ron Robinson Says This Is the Common Skin-Care Mistake We’re All Guilty Of

BeautyStat’s Ron Robinson Says This Is the Common Skin-Care Mistake We’re All Guilty Of featured image

When it comes to brighter, more radiant skin, Ron Robinson knows a thing or two on the subject. Founder of skin-care brand BeautyStat—you might know it as Hailey Bieber’s favorite vitamin C—and cosmetic chemist, Robinson has been in the beauty business for more than 20 years, making him a bonafide expert on the topic. As we dive into no-makeup season, we asked Robinson for his top skin-care tips, and if we were you, we’d be taking notes.

What is your number-one skin care tip for everyone looking to get brighter skin?

“For brighter skin, I always recommend that every morning, consumers use a vitamin C serum followed by sunscreen. Or use our 2 in 1 vitamin C serum with mineral sunscreen, the BeautyStat Universal C Skin Refiner SPF 50.”

What is your number-one skin care tip for those with more melanated skin looking to get brighter skin and fight discoloration?

“For those with melanated skin, I always recommend a vitamin C serum. Vitamin C works as a powerful antioxidant to protect skin from free radical damage, it helps to stimulate collagen and it helps to prevent the overproduction of melanin which is key to help even out skin tone and reduce hyper-pigmentation in those with melanated skin.

And especially if you’re prone to hyper-pigmentation, you should wear SPF 30 or higher broad spectrum sunscreen everyday.“

What is the most common skin-care mistake you see people making?

“The most common mistake that I’ve seen people making is cocktailing skin-care products. Cocktailing is the idea that if using one treatment is good, using multiple treatments one on top of the next is better. Cocktailing can lead to irritation and a compromised skin barrier. Use one treatment at a time and if you don’t see results, try another.”

What is the one TikTok or social media skin care trend you wish would go away?

Slugging. Though I do like the concept of using a heavy moisturizer if your skin is dry, I think that using a very occlusive product like petrolatum can lead to pore clogging and potential breakouts, and no one has time for that!”

What is your biggest vitamin C serum tip for users?

“Vitamin C can be irritating to some, so you might need to start slow. Apply a little at first so that your skin acclimates, then follow immediately with moisturizer and/or sunscreen. Build up from there and you will then realize the full brightening benefits that vitamin C can give you.
