Skin care is not one size fits all as we all have different needs and concerns. That’s why Agency has gotten into the business of having experts tweak formulas to suit the individual. Their newest launch takes customization to a whole new area of the face: the eyes. The delicate eye skin is some of the first to show signs of aging, but because it’s so sensitive, it can be hard to find a happy medium between efficacious and non-irritating.
The Eye Formula ($38 for a month’s supply) has a long list of superstar ingredients. Some formulations will feature tretinoin, if it’s right for your skin, while others rely on ingredients like caffeine, dexpanthenol, glycerin and green tea extract. Additionally, as treatment is ongoing, the formula strength can be adjusted as needed or as skin goals change.
The ingredients
The base formulation is designed to maximize efficacy, says Agency. “Tretinoin helps smooth texture and fine lines while brightening skin. Caffeine is an antioxidant that can help smooth skin and slow down photoaging effects. Dexpanthenol attracts and holds moisture for softer, smoother skin,” they explain. “Green tea extract minimizes hyperpigmentation and fights damaging free radicals that can cause wrinkles, sagging and dryness. Lastly, glycerin locks water in the skin’s outer layer to maximize moisture.” Agency notes that combining tretinoin with other active ingredients, as they do in some offerings of the Eye Formula, can be more effective than using tretinoin on its own.
The tretinoin of it all
Tretinoin can be irritating, especially in a spot as delicate as the skin around the eyes. This formula is specifically designed for the sensitive skin around the eyes, using gentler levels of tretinoin. The benefit of Agency is that an expert will decide if it’s the right ingredient for you. Also, if any side effects pop up, like dryness or irritation, there’s a dermatologist on hand to answer questions.
