If you missed Gwyneth Paltrow’s The Goop Lab series on Netflix, specifically the episode about facial aging, you missed the actresses’ endorsement of thread lifts, which she praises as a more natural approach to aging than a facelift because they’re temporary and help boost your body’s own collagen. However, Gwyneth isn’t the only A-list fan of threads (aka suspension sutures)—plastic surgeons and dermatologists have said this is one of the most popular treatment requests from their celebrity clients.

Actress Eva Mendes recently joined the club, as she took to Instagram to share her experience:

So what are mono threads? They are a type of PDO (polydioxanone) thread that are smooth (no barbs or cones that grip to the skin) and gradually dissolve in the skin over the course of six months. “A thread lift is a nonsurgical facial rejuvenation procedure that passes threads beneath the surface of the skin to lift the tissue,” says Saddle Brook, NJ Fredric Haberman, MD. “When appropriately positioned, they give the face a more lifted, toned appearance, especially around the lower face and jowls. Most people return to work the day after their procedure.”

As the threads dissolve, Dr. Haberman says they stimulate collagen, and some people may continue to see results for up to a year. “The average cost is $2,125, though it varies by location,” he adds.
