Kelly Ripa is a perfect example of someone that never seems to age no matter how many years go by, and with the recent welcoming of the big 5-0, everyone wants to know how she does it. In an interview with The Zoe Report, Ripa breaks down everything from dance cardio to her veggie-focused diet:
Keeping Up
Stay-at-home has taken a toll on all of us, but Ripa made it through in one piece by staying physically active. “My entire family is diligent about their workout routines, so we motivated each other throughout quarantine, though we all had to revise our sessions a bit,” she tells TZR. “I did try and keep myself realistic with working out given the circumstances, but our entire family knew that keeping ourselves physically healthy was really important and getting exercise also helped boost our mental health.”
The key to staying on top of her training: Refocusing her mindset. According to TZR, Ripa shares that thinking of exercise as a chore makes her unmotivated, so making sure to block that thought out of her head is essential.
“The key is to mix it up: Functional training, circuit training, core workouts, a jog with a friend—there are so many options to choose from, there’s definitely one (or more) for you.”
Nutrient Essentials
“I have learned what you put inside your body allows you to have the strength to do the stuff that benefits the outside,” Ripa says. This concept alone is what inspired her to ditch alcohol and replace it with green smoothies: “Not that we were sitting around drinking day and night, but I think that there is something about clean living—maybe that’s what did it. Maybe that’s the difference,” Ripa tells E News.
Be Still
The All My Children star says she carves out 10 minutes every day to hone in on her meditation practice, which is something we could all use a taste of right now. “Those few precious moments of mindfulness—doing yoga while focusing on my thought patterns and awareness—help me create a sense of calm and inner harmony and make a big difference to my overall wellbeing,” she says, adding that finding some time every day to turn off her devices makes this easier.
Start Earlier
As for keeping her health stable through the years, “One thing I would tell my younger self, and what I try to tell my kids, is to adopt healthy practices earlier. This will set you up with a routine that you can carry on longer, allowing you to look and feel great for a majority of your life.”
