Give Your Hands A Lift To Look Younger

Give Your Hands A Lift To Look Younger featured image

Celebrities may get high praise for their super-svelte bodies and beautiful faces, but tend to get scrutiny when they have less-than-plump hands that give away their age. As our hands seem to get more attention these days, some plastic surgeons and dermatologists are adding “hand lifts” to the slew of skin-lifting treatments they offer that help to achieve more youthful skin.

The skin on the hands, just like skin elsewhere, ages and loses fatty volume. It’s also more susceptible to sun-damage, age spots and perhaps even premature aging. So how are doctors combating aging hands? Through the use of certain fillers (to restore volume), Fraxel laser resurfacing (to blast away pigmentation) and sclerotherapy (to reduce bulging veins).

According to The New York Times, this set of procedures can cost upward of $3,000, but they are relatively quick and don’t require surgery. While fillers like Radiesse, Juvéderm and Perlane may show improvements right away, laser resurfacing will take a few weeks to heal, and sclerotherapy may take a couple months to see the final results.

While most “lift” procedures include the surgical removal of skin, New York dermatologist Neil S. Sadick, MD, told The New York Times that “lifting” saggy skin from the hands in this way isn’t a viable answer because the scars on the hands won’t heal well. So the less-invasive treatments are preferable.
