Kelly Ripa always keeps it real. The Live With Kelly and Mark cohost is great about keeping viewers in the loop when it comes to her beauty journey. Whether she’s chatting about embracing her greying hair or shedding light on her new favorite makeup hacks, the 53-year-old talk show host is refreshingly transparent. On the July 3 episode of the show, for example, she shared her unique spin on social media’s viral lip liner hack—and we’ve detailed it below so you can recreate it yourself.
Kelly Ripa’s Lip Liner Hack
“I learned this on Instagram,” Ripa said during the episode. “It sounds nuts. The girls on Instagram do it, they paint their entire upper lip brown. I don’t have that level of makeup artistry, I just don’t have it. So, what I’ve been doing is taking a brown eyeliner and I trace on the outside of my lip line and then I fill it in and then I take a regular like, MAC Spice or whatever your lip liner of choice is, and I trace outside of that. So it’s like a double layer. So, I’m basically manufacturing a lip line.”
Naturally, the difference from her natural lip is quite striking. “What’s sad though is when I take my makeup off and I watch it go away, it is very, it’s alarming,” she told her husband and cohost, Mark Consuelos, who had complimented the results, calling them “beautiful.” She joked that she transforms into Gollum from Lord of the Rings once it’s all taken off.

And that’s not the only beauty news to come out of the talk show this week. On July 1, Consuelos unveiled a buzz cut for an upcoming acting role he’s keeping under wraps, jokingly comparing himself to a chinchilla instead of sharing more details.
“I’ve never rubbed an actual chinchilla but I suspect this is what it feels like,” Ripa joked while touching his new short hair. “We should give everyone in the audience an opportunity. … Look at how I take it all for granted, don’t I? I take it all for granted!”
Ripa admitted she’s been pushing for more details. “I’ve been trying to get intel out of him. And this is why I think we’ve been married so long, you’re so cagey about the details and that I’m not unconvinced that you are also, like your parents, in the CIA.”
