Academy Award-winning actress Cate Blanchett can seem to do no wrong when it comes to her Hollywood movie roles. And it’s safe to say the same about her glowing skin and flawless makeup.
But just like every woman, Cate still has to battle specific skin issues as she ages. “Cate has large pores because she is losing elasticity in her skin. She needs to build up her lower dermal levels to get some of that ‘plumping’ back,” says celebrity aesthetician Nerida Joy, and recommends using a moisturizer with DMAE in it to keep pores small. “DMAE is good for mature skin, and really helps with improving tone,” she adds.
Applying a mask with a refining ingredient can also help reduce the size of pores and can really help eliminate an oily T-zone. “A mask with a papaya enzyme or another refining ingredient would be good for her skin,” says Joy. “It would help to reduce the size of her pores-and it can be done before going out for the evening.”
When it comes to makeup, as we age, we lose definition-especially in our lips and eyes, which is why defining these features is essential. “Heavy eyeliner and shadow all around the eye area make Cate’s eyes appear less puffy,” says celebrity makeup artist Eugenia Weston. “And the soft-peach lip color makes her complexion look soft and creamy.”
Get the Look
EYES
Line the inner eyes for a more sultry look without heaviness.
CHEEKS
Add a pop of pink blush on the apples of the cheeks to brighten the entire look.
FACE
Use a bronzer to frame the face naturally-not only will it give the look more definition, but it will also warm up the skin tone for fair skin types. In Cate’s case, makeup is also used to create the illusion of a thinner nose. Using a highlighting powder, lighten the center from the bridge to the tip, and then shade the sides with a gray-brown color for a natural look. Try the Smashbox Step By Step Contour Kit ($45), which contains all the tools you need to add definition to your features.
