Big news for drugstore beauty lovers: Walgreens has just unveiled a new private-label skin-care line featuring nine products, all priced between $6 and $23—and each one is inspired by popular high-end brands for a fraction of the cost.
The collection has all the essentials for a complete and effective skin-care routine: cleansers, an exfoliant, moisturizer, face sunscreen, a lip mask, brightening mask, and body butter, plus four targeted face serums to plump, hydrate, brighten, and reduce oiliness. Most notably, though, each product’s ingredients and packaging is formulated designed to mirror those of higher-priced, competing brands—and Walgreens isn’t shy about it. In a public press release, the brand directly compares its formulas to popular counterparts: the Gentle Cleanser to Youth to the People’s Superfood Gentle Antioxidant Cleanser, the Moisturizing Facial Cream to Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream, and the Hydrating Lip Mask to Laneige’s Lip Sleeping Mask. And that’s just a glimpse at three out of the nine.
This line was brought to life to help customers access premium-quality skin care without the premium price tag. “As we sharpen our focus in areas such as women’s health and beauty, our new premium skin-care line is a game-changer for those who crave luxury but are mindful of their budget,” Heather Hughes, group vice president and general merchandise manager for health and beauty at Walgreens said in a press statement. “Compared to the current price of similar premium skin-care products listed on brand websites, the online prices of our new Walgreens premium skin-care products are at least 50 percent less expensive, making high-quality skin care more accessible. It’s our way of delivering personalized solutions that don’t break the bank and we invite our customers to see for themselves.”
Apparently, the brand has big plans for growth, and we’re excited to see which products it draws inspiration from next. As Hughes told WWD, “Walgreens is planning to add products to its Premium Skin Care assortment each year, adding that Walgreens is “always looking at upcoming trends, and we have a very exciting product pipeline we can’t wait to launch.”
