Jodie Foster has been doing this Hollywood thing since she was in the single digits. And it’s safe to say she has it down.
Nominated for outstanding actress in a limited series or movie for True Detective: Night Country, Foster, now 62, chatted with Laverne Cox on the Emmy E! red carpet ahead of the show, while talking a side of aging.
“I think turning 60 changed everything,” shared Foster, as reported by People. “The happy pill came to me, and I was just so happy to not have to compete with myself, my former self, and to be able to just have a new career that’s really, I don’t know, just about a different part of myself.”
“I just love making films,” Foster continued. “I love being a part of the experience, and more than that, I like being a member of a team, I like serving other people, and telling stories that ultimately can help make people better instead of worse.”
On the glam front, we caught up with one of Foster’s trusted team members, celeb makeup artist Brett Freedman, who prepped Foster for tonight’s show.
“Someone asked me why I use a lot of peach on Jody,” Freedman shares. “I love using peach/golden tones on women of a certain age—wait, do we still say that?—because pink sometimes feels too expected and sometimes too too sweet. Peach mixed with bronze and a little gold feels fresh. And, dare I say, sexy.”
“I glammed Jodie and her wife—so it was immersive,” Freedman continues. “Both hair and makeup on both! It’s literally like a one-man pit crew. But I adore them. Honestly, they are the best!”
One of Freedman’s go-to secret weapons, he says, is a no-cast SPF that won’t show in red-carpet photos. “I only use Farmhouse Fresh Elevated Shade ($44) in my kit. It’s perfect for the red carpet because it’s ultra sheer and matte. Also, SPF 30 is the perfect number. It’s not too high in SPF that the texture is thick. It blends seamlessly under makeup.”
Pro tip: “If I apply SPF to the face with my fingers, I avoid the eye area and wash my hands immediately after,” Freedman shares. “If I apply with a brush, it’s a separate brush I only use for SPF. It’s deadly to get SPF in the eyes so that extra step built-in is worth its weight in gold!”
