‘Tis the season when we reflect on the trends of the past year and look ahead at what’s to come. Pinterest, which has over 480 million monthly active users, boasts 80 percent accuracy in predicting trends. To pinpoint these trends they dug into some serious data, analysis and evaluation. The platform has predicted the trends we should expect to see in 2024, and we’re super into them.

Blue beauty

Say goodbye to the no-makeup makeup look that’s been trending this past year and say hello to bold blue hues. Pinterest predicts Gen Z and Millenials will be searching for “blue glam makeup” and “pastel blue eyeshadow” as they look for ways to infuse this 60s style into their modern look. Pinterest experts expect a 260 percent increase in searches for “fun blue nails” and a 100 percent increase in searches for “aqua makeup look.” They also anticipate that “blue eyeshadow aesthetic,” “light blue prom makeup” and “blue quince makeup” will also be popular.

The bigger, the better

Pinterest predicts that beauty, hair and jewelry will get bigger, bolder and puffier in 2024. We’ve already seen signs of this on the runways—and we’re on board. They anticipate Millennials and Gen Z will reach for “oversized opulence” to perfectly pair with the trending “fluffy hair aesthetic.” Pinterest suspects a 230 percent increase in “big bun” searches. Keep an eye out for a spike in interest in “big braid hairstyles” and “wavy perm men” as well.

Don’t forget the body

According to Pinterest’s predictions, Boomers and Gen Z will invest in luxury lotions, in-home spa experiences and SPF in a big way next year. Pinterest expects a 1,025 percent spike in searches for “body skin care routine,” an 845 percent increase in searches for “bodycare” and a 245 percent climb in searches for “body lotion aesthetic.” Alongside these trends, the data suggests “sunscreen” and “spa aesthetic” will also be popular searches.
