I’ve gotten further and further away from foundation the older I get. As the clock ticks, these days, my typical standbys seem to do that whole “settling into lines-and-wrinkles” thing (plus, the pores) on this 44-year-old face.
If I do wear it, I have to be fully greased up with a serum, oil, moisturizer, a post-setting spray, another spray for the road, the whole bit—most times, it’s easier (and looks better) if I stick to a tinted SPF, tinted moisturizer or nothing at all.
Enter MAKE UP FOR EVER HD Skin Hydra Glow Foundation ($45). The brand told me in early January that it considered the new launch to be a “makeup that mimicked a sheet mask,” and I was, in all honesty, rather skeptical.
But the pros over at MAKE UP FOR EVER know what they’re doing, and they have a long history of backstage-glam experience to back it up.
They also don’t rush to release the “stuff” just because it’s buzzy. And, they have something even more impressive behind the launch, via a solid bit of hard-hitting data: Eight-six-percent of this foundation is skin care–based—that’s where the sheet-mask comparison comes in—thanks to the brand’s exclusive Hydra-Skin Booster Complex, a nourishing formula that hydrates, plumps and smooths skin.
To say that this creamy foundation (it almost reads as a foundation with a touch of facial oil) is lightweight and moisturizing is an understatement—it literally blurs, illuminates and hydrates all while you wonder if you put any on. (You also can’t really mess it up if you go for more or keep reapplying during the day.)
“Skin-like finish” may be a weird descriptor, but that’s exactly what it delivers. Plus, the brand says it will continue to boost hydration and improve the look of skin instantly and over time, all while being good for mature (see above) and sensitive skin types.
MAKE UP FOR EVER HD Skin Hydra Glow Foundation launches on makeupforever.com on February 8.
