Jelly nails have been trending, and since we love a high-shine monochromatic moment, we think it’s time to match our nails to our lips. “Who doesn’t love a moist, plump, come-and-bite-me lip?” asks celebrity makeup artist Joey Choy. “There are a lot of trends that come and go these days, but to me, jelly lips will always be on trend.” Matte lip looks have had their time in the sun for long enough—it’s juicy, jelly lips’ time to shine. We’ve noticed glimmering pouts on our favorite celebrities and TikTok FYPs, and we needed to know how to get the look. Here’s what we learned.

What are jelly lips?
Think Jello skin trend but focused on the lips and dialed up. Celebrity makeup artist Allison Kaye describes the look as “tinted lips that are high shine, glassy, juicy and hydrated.” While they can be untinted or have more neutral shades the more pigmented the more they truly resemble jelly. Choy explains that jelly lips tend to be covered with a thick or translucent gloss to make them look plump and bouncy—resembling the consistency of jelly.
How to get the jelly lips look
“The easiest way to achieve the look is by dabbing a lipstick of choice on the center of the upper and lower lip, then blending it out with a finger to create a soft stained effect,” explains Choy. Kaye says you’re going for a lip blur look and can use liquid or regular lipstick. “The key step is to apply a very thick layer of clear gloss on top to create the jelly effect,” notes Choy.
