Why Experts Love Peach
Ushered into the spotlight this year by Pantone, this color isn’t exactly used to winning popularity contests. But it’s always been a key tool for makeup artists.
“Peach is the underdog of spring colors,” explains celebrity makeup artist Jeanine Lobell. “It’s got this cool way of making everyone look a bit fresher and more awake. Because it is a yellow-based color, it’s great for neutralizing any red or pink in the skin tone.”
Alongside tamping down redness, peach is also considered a universal color, or one that works on any skin tone. “There are so many flattering ways to incorporate the color peach into your makeup look,” says celebrity makeup artist Emily Gray. “Peach is a flattering color on so many different skin tones and its such a great summer color.”
According to Lobell, it works on so many skin tones thanks to its balance between pink and orange. “It doesn’t lean too pink or too orange, so it sort of hits this sweet spot that lights up your face without trying too hard,” Lobell explains. “Whether you’re super fair or have a deeper complexion, peachy tones add a healthy glow. It’s low maintenance and high impact. As a color, it blends well into all undertones, so if you want a nice edgeless blush look, she’s your girl!”
How to Wear Peach
You can easily master the color of the year and make peach work for you with the right placement and products.
“On the eyes, peach-colored eyeshadow looks gorgeous on blue, green, hazel, and brown eyes,” says Gray. “Another one of my favorite ways to incorporate peach is on the cheeks, as there are so many beautiful peach colored blushes! Swipe either a shimmery or matte peach blush on the apples of your cheeks for a sweet flushed look.”
Versatile enough to wear on the skin, eyes and lips, the color is also considered refreshing without being overwhelming.
“My favorite part about incorporating peach into your daily makeup routine is that it is so easy because you can use it on the skin, on the eye, and the lip so the options are really endless,” explains makeup artist Natalie Dresher. “It’s both a wearable and practical color as well as flattering!”
As you might expect, this makes it the perfect color choice for a monochromatic look.
“I love playing around with a monochromatic look with peach,” Lobell says. “You can start with a peach blush on the cheeks for a warmer glow. I like to take my peachy blush and add it to the crease of my lid to open and brighten eyes. It is also great for color draping to create more shape to the face. Also, a peachy tone is good when applied closer to under eyes to help neutralize any dark circles.”
Alongside being color of the year, it’s also debuting in a several seasonal beauty launches.
“Peach has been getting a love in a lot of makeup brand launches as well,” Dresher says. “One Size just launched a range of peach setting powders that give you a perfect peachy toned under eye—and it comes in three shades for all skin tones. The Ultra Peach shade has become my new favorite, which is perfect for my skin tone.”
