Kate Beckinsale is refuting claims from fans that she’s had lip filler. In an Instagram post on Wednesday, May 22, in which the 50-year-old struck a pose for the camera, she sharply responded to a commenter who asked her to reveal her preferred brand of filler.
“What do you have injected in your lips?” the commenter asked. “Juvederm or Restylane?” In response, Beckinsale replied, “Just lips dude.”
Her reply sparked a reaction among her 5.6 million Instagram followers. Some insist she’s had fillers but will “never admit it,” while others questioned the invasiveness: “Why do you care what others do or don’t do?”
Earlier this month, Beckinsale addressed accusations of cosmetic procedures in a lengthy, now-deleted, Instagram post. “Every time I post anything—and by the way, this has been the case since I was about 30 I am accused of having had unrecognizable surgery/using Botox using fillers/being obsessed with looking younger,” the post read.
“It’s really such a tiresome and subtly vicious way to bully a person,” she continued. “I don’t actually do any of those things. I’ve even gone to the trouble of having a plastic surgeon categorically state that I don’t and haven’t, and still, every time there’s a chorus of ‘My God, you’re unrecognizable,’ ‘Oh my God PLASTIC,’ ‘Oh my God, you don’t even look like yourself anymore.’ It happens constantly.”
She went on to express her indifference toward aging, reflecting on her personal struggles after the loss of her father when she was just five. “I spent most of my teenage years and a good deal of my 20s absolutely crippled with severe anxiety and panic attacks that I was going to die of a heart attack too, and went to emergency rooms often, and was almost, at that time of my life, completely immobilized by that anxiety,” she wrote. “The fact that one of the major things I am bullied about is an assumption that I can’t handle the idea of getting older is so deeply ironic when my all-consuming terror was that I never thought I’d even see the end of my 20s.”
Beckinsale, who is accustomed to such comments, doesn’t usually respond to every commenter directly. However, one of her notable comebacks made headlines last May during the Cannes Festival premiere of Pot au Feu. After a follower asked, “How much surgery now?” The Much Ado About Nothing star responded playfully, “Still none…oh wait, appendix.” She kept a close watch on the comments section and further engaged, writing, “I haven’t sorry…maybe in July everything will start falling off lol,” she wrote. “No threads no threadlift no Botox no laser no nose job no filler.”
She continued, “I do have facials with PRP to boost collagen and microcurrent for skin tightening and oxygen. I probably would try laser but I’m a bit scared. Haven’t so far.”
